It was a busy and successful week for Blacksburg Volleyball! In the end, the Bruins played 8 matches and came out on top 7 times.
The week began at home against Patrick County, where the Bruins serve-receive excelled. Sophomore Alana Turk passed at a 2.50 rating, leading Blacksburg to an easy 3-0 win. Behind a fierce serve and the offensive production of seniors Abigail Phillips and Catherine Boyle, the Bruins made quick work of Christiansburg Tuesday night with another 3-0 sweep.
On Thursday evening, Blacksburg faced one of their toughest challenges of the season at home. Hidden Valley entered the game with only two losses, one against the Bruins, with revenge on their mind. After falling behind 14-21 in the first game, Blacksburg clawed back to tie the game 24-24. Despite taking a 26-25 lead, the Bruins eventually fell 27-29 and found themselves in an early deficit. After struggling in the second set, Blacksburg wound up the offensive machine, taking the 3rd and 4th sets to force a decisive 5th game. Despite the comeback, Hidden Valley proved to be too much in the final frame and too the match 29-27, 25-21, 13-25, 22-25, 15-8.
Blacksburg wrapped up the weekend with a stellar performance at the Tournament of Champions in Roanoke. Blacksburg was the only area team to go undefeated, posting a 5-0 record for the weekend. The Bruins defeated defending Group 5A state champion Atlee, defending Group 1A state champion Auburn, James River, Northside, and Liberty Christian Academy.
